Flora Pettit is Seeking a Full-Time, Highly Motivated Real Estate Paralegal or Legal Assistant for its Charlottesville Office

Flora Pettit PC, an established Central Virginia law firm that highly values its employees, seeks a full-time, highly motivated employee with a positive attitude, and strong work ethic who enjoys working in a fast- paced environment for its Charlottesville, VA office. Three years of experience with real estate documentation and closings is desired; however, we will train the right person who has no real estate closing experience.

The Candidate will assist attorney(s) by providing clerical and research support services including document preparation and review, assisting the firm’s attorneys and clients with title research and analysis, deed preparation, and real estate closings.

Essential Functions

  • Assisting the Firm's Real Estate Group with pre-closing and post-closing tasks, including drafting, reviewing and organizing various transactional documents, preparing closing binders, and corresponding with clients, lenders, insurers, and realtors.

  • Reviewing and analyzing title and survey documents, preparing related work product, and ensuring compliance with lender requirements and title insurance requirements.

  • Preparing and utilizing checklists, organizing closing documents, assisting with due diligence, and searching on databases maintained by Clerk’s of Court and the Virginia SCC.

  • Obtaining, preparing and/or filing various documents, certificates, statements, agreements, amendments, leases, and forms; forming limited liability companies and other entities.

  • Organizing, participating in and attending closings and handling recordation of various documents and title search updates prior to recordation as needed.

Competencies

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, take direction, and provide accurate and detailed work product are required; prior law firm employment is strongly preferred.

  • Excellent word processing, organization, communication and proofreading skills required.

  • Experience with SoftPro, Simplifile and Clerk’s Office research tools helpful.

  • Experience with real estate closings is strongly preferred.

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment is a must.

  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with co-workers and clients is essential.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment.
