Jennifer Shirkey will present at the American Institute of Certified Public Accounts (AICPA) & Chartered Institute of Management Accounts (CIMA) Employee Benefit Plans Conference

Jennifer Shirkey will co-present two sessions to a national audience of CPAs, employers sponsoring plans, and other employee benefits professionals at the 2022 AICPA & CIMA Employee Benefit Plans Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. During her first session with co-presenter Renee Cahill of Grant Thornton, Jennifer will discuss best practices for handling advanced distribution issues for retirement plans, especially in the areas of divorce and death, as well as correction methods for distribution errors and the new proposed IRS regulations under the SECURE Act regarding required minimum distributions. Her second session will be a roundtable on recent developments in the area of retirement plan fiduciary duties. Jennifer and her co-presenters Greg Ash of Spencer Fane Lisa Germano of Actuarial Benefits & Design Company will highlight fiduciary issues arising from multiple employer plan (MEPs), pooled employer plans (PEPs), and ESOPs; discuss the recent Hughes v. Northwestern Supreme Court case, fiduciary liability insurance market changes, and cryptocurrency issues; and examine cybersecurity concerns, all in the context of minimizing plan fiduciaries’ exposure and achieving better outcomes for plan participants.
